Wood for fireplace
Firewoods must be especially well seasoned.
Buying fresh wood means buying water; freshly cut wood can contain up to 75% humidity, while firewood is perfect when its moisture content is 15-20%.
QUESTION: HOW long does it take to lower the wood's moisture content and make it become firewood?
ANWSER: It takes at least 6 months and of course a lot depends on where the wood is stored, or if it is left in the open air or sheltered in a covered place.
In 6 months the humidity level is between 30 and 40%.
Because the humidity level is lowered to 15-20%, which makes the firewood in an optimal product, it takes between 18 and 24 months of seasoning, depending on whether the wood is sheltered outdoors or left in the air open.
